Modern industrial machinery represents years of engineering, innovation and expertise. Whether it's a high-speed packaging system, precision sorting equipment or specialist manufacturing machinery, the right photography should do more than simply record what it looks like. Before becoming a commercial photographer, I spent nineteen years working as an electronics engineer. That background allows me to quickly understand technical equipment and recognise the details that matter. Rather than simply photographing a machine, I aim to produce images that communicate the engineering, craftsmanship and technology behind it.

Industrial machinery is often complex. Every component has been designed for a purpose, whether it's improving efficiency, increasing accuracy or solving a particular manufacturing challenge.


Understanding how equipment works helps me decide what deserves attention within a photograph. Sometimes that's the overall scale of the machine. Other times it's the precision of a mechanism, the quality of the construction or the interaction between operators and the equipment.


Rather than creating generic photographs, I aim to produce images that genuinely reflect the engineering that has gone into the finished product.

Photographing Machinery in Real Working Environments


Many of the strongest photographs are created while equipment is doing exactly what it was designed to do.


Working production lines, operators interacting with machinery and engineers carrying out installation or maintenance all help provide context that simply isn't possible in a studio environment.


I always work carefully around existing production schedules, planning photography to minimise disruption while creating a comprehensive library of images that reflects both the machinery and the people behind it.

Can you photograph machinery while it's operating?

Yes. In fact, I often prefer to photograph machinery while it's in use. Seeing equipment operating with real products and operators creates far more engaging and informative photographs than static images alone.

Do you photograph machinery at customer sites?

Absolutely. Most industrial machinery is simply too large or too specialised to move, so I regularly photograph equipment within factories, production facilities and engineering environments throughout the UK.

Can you photograph individual components as well as complete machines?

Yes. From complete production systems to electronic control equipment, precision components and industrial products, I can produce a consistent set of images for marketing, technical literature and websites.

Where do you work?

I'm based just outside Tunbridge Wells in Kent and regularly photograph machinery across London, the South East and throughout the UK.
